Auditory and Balance System in Your Inner Ear
Did you know that your inner ear consists of your auditory system and your balance system? Both systems share tissue, bone and fluid. Thus, balance problems can also manifest as hearing problems. Furthermore, the auditory and balance nerves to your brain are side-by-side. If you have trouble with our balance, a hearing evaluation may reveal important information for your treatment.
Dr. Robertson, our Doctor of Audiology, has attended a number of courses at the American Institute of Balance. This has increased her knowledge and skill in identifying information about your balance and in providing helpful information to improve your balance.
The most common type of balance disorder is called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, or BPPV. It can develop with even a mild bump to the head. It is experienced as a brief but strong sense of the word spinning around you when you put your head into the “wrong” position. There are movements which can be applied to correct this condition.
